The Powerful PLEDGE
CARE is asking you to sign the International Women's Day pledge to stand behind women and girls living in poverty and facing inequality worldwide. The more of us who join their cause, the more they will know they are not alone.
Our goal is to have 2,000 signatures from men, women, boys and girls the week of March 8th 2010!
Stand with them. Sign the pledge!
Today, I stand behind women and girls of the world. Together we are a global movement.
Millions of women and girls are not treated as equals. They cannot get an education, go to work, or vote. In many cases, they are considered less valuable than cattle or property.
Hundreds of thousands of girls are killed every year simply because of their gender, whether through neglect or through intentional harm.
And yet women and girls are the greatest agents of change in their communities.
When they are able to earn an income, communities flourish. When they are educated, countries prosper. And when they are empowered, their families and children reap the benefits.
The oppression of women and girls is both a human rights issue and a root cause of poverty.
It is a global problem, and I am part of the solution.
I pledge to stand behind women and girls around the world as they overcome inequality and reach empowerment. I will learn more about what they face day to day. I will take action to stand behind them. I will spread the word of the importance of women and girls in the fight against poverty.
By signing, I am standing in solidarity with them and letting them know they are not alone.
She has the power to change her world. I have the power to help her do it.
Now wear a string on March 8th to recognize International Women’s Day and to remind you of what has been overcome, and what is yet to be achieved!
